Pulau Langkawi Vacation 2010 - Part 1

We had been planning for this trip to the famous island of Langkawi for almost 4 months prior to the actual date of departure. When we first started planning the trip, we were contemplating on the mode of transport - should we go by land as per our previous travel or should we try flying to our destination. Then what would we want to do once we get there. We did a lot of reading on Langkawi and also browse through other's blogs. Since this was our first time to the island, we decided that we would visit interesting places on the island while throwing in a bit of shopping for duty free chocolates and some tablewares which is what Langkawi is famous for apart from it's mystical islands archipelago tourism industry.


A bit about Langkawi Island

Lying off the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Kedah, Pulau Langkawi is the largest among an archipelago of 99 islands collectively known as Langkawi. With only a small population of 54,000 in a land of 32,000 hectares, Langkawi is surrounded by beautiful turquoise sea with paddy fields and lush jungles cladding hills in the inland.
As mentioned earlier, the tourism industry seems to be the main economic activity of Langkawi island.
